About 20% of U.S. adults had chronic pain and 8% had high-impact chronic pain in 2016, according to an analysis of National Health Interview Survey data.
Michigan health care providers wrote 11 million opioid prescriptions that year, enough to provide every Michigan resident with his or her own bottle of narcotics, according to state data.

To fight back against the opioid crisis, Beaumont experts are holding a free panel discussion and Q&A on the evaluation and management of chronic pain. The event is geared toward people with chronic back, leg, arm or pelvic pain; failed knee surgery or peripheral neuropathy.

Physicians Kenneth Peters, M.D.; Michael Sikorsky, D.O.; and Cain Dimon, M.D., will discuss the latest advancements and non-opioid treatment options, including minimally-invasive technologies such as nerve stimulation.

The free event runs from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 30 at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, 3711 West 13 Mile Road, in the Administration Building.
Light refreshments will be available.
